You know, the Mac is mostly for work and when I’m in work mode, I usually prefer to run Brain.FM, a fantastic music app that helps me focus. In this article, I’ll show you two quick ways to stop Spotify from opening on startup, and since I’m using a MacBook, the tutorials below are for macOS users only. Method 1: Disable Spotify on CleanMyMac. But after a while, you may notice Spotify opens every time you startup your Mac, and that’s not what you want anymore. Opening up automatically on startup every single time is a default setting. Fortunately there are multiple ways to disable/stop Spotify from opening up on its own. The methods are easy.
Spotify is my favorite and most used service I have, even more than TV and streaming services. Everyday I use Spotify whether I am in the car, working in the office, cooking, chores, and anytime I want tunes Spotify is on. No software or service is without its flaws and nuances but one issue got to a point I needed to address it. That issue was with the desktop app from Spotify.
Over time the desktop app became slower and slower, less responsive to the point of taking minutes to load one playlist. Uninstalling completely and reinstalling worked for a short time but eventually the app would degrade to that level of poor performance. Macos notes app backup. That told me it wasn’t my machine but something with the app.
I searched for solutions and if others had the same problem and found may posts that did but no good solutions that worked. Until I came across a lone post with complicated steps. I went through those and those worked well.
The problem comes down to the cache management of the Spotify app. Overtime the cache files grow to a size that passed efficiency to the point of being very large and therefore more difficult the computer to use them without expending more memory and processing which becomes counter-productive. The solution is to clear out the cache files and then set a configuration setting in the Spotify setup files to cap the cache size to not bloat.
This post is to simplify those steps for both MacOS and Windows.

Some of these apps are useful - cloud syncing services for example, which work best when you don’t have to remember to enable them - but not all are necessary like Spotify, which should be launched when you need it.
Yes, many people may encounter the same issue above: Spotify keeps opening automatically on the startup of the computer. The reason is unknown, but it always happens after the program’s auto-update. If you also have this issue, no worry, follow the instruction below, you will learn three methods to stop Spotify from starting when your computer boots.
